Question:

How easy is it to remove the knockout panel on the model y? would I be better off paying more for the Ecohitch with magnetic cover to make it easier to go from bike rack to no rack? Or does the magnetic cover not work that well? Or look really bad?

The EcoHitch # EH39FR for your 2022 Tesla Model Y does provide a much easier solution for removal of the appearance panel for access to the hitch opening compared to the Draw Tite # DT58MR.

If you fast-forward to the 25 second mark of the attached install video for the Draw Tite Hitch # DT58MR you can see what it takes to remove the rear trim piece that covers the hitch opening. We had to use a trim panel removal tool so if you were concerned about ease of removal and install I would rather recommend you the EcoHitch part # EH39FR which utilizes the magnet for attachment. This will be MUCH easier and quicker than the Draw Tite solution. When the cover is attached using the magnet it would look exactly the same as it did before the hitch install. The magnet would also hold the cover well and would not cause any issues.
