Can Lippert Ground Control 3.0 Install on Trailer Frames that aren't I-Beam

Updated 07/15/2024 | Published 05/10/2022

Question:

Are the inluded brackets only work with I beam or can they be installed on a square tube type chassis. If so do you drill through the entire square tube or welding will be required?

The Lippert Ground Control 3.0 # LC675817 can fit non I-beam trailer frames like what you have. You'd need to drill access holes in the frame so that you can attach the brackets to the opposite side. Or you could have the brackets welded.

Hi there. I been reading the comments about installing Lippert ground control 3.0 on box frames. My 5th wheel has a C channel frame. Could I install the bracket on the inside of the frame over the lip like a I beam frame? Not sure if there would be enough clearance. I contacted Lippert, They say that the brackets are designed for I beams. Thanks for your advice.

@Steve So the mounting brackets for the rear jacks of the Lippert Ground Control part # LC358590 are designed to fit into an I-beam frame channel so it would require some modification to install this to a C-channel. Most likely you'd need to find a welder/fabricator to come up with a way to modify the bracket so it could attach to the C-channel. If your C-channel was outward facing I believe it wouldn't really be much of an issue but since yours faces inward it would require modification.

@JamesonC Thanks for your reply. The C channel faces inward, so the flat side you can see from the outside. I was thinking about sticking a piece of flat steel along the bottom of the frame to make it a I beam and have the bracket set against it and it would keep it straight.

@Steve That would certainly seem like it would work.
