Spacing Between Hub Face and Spring Seat for 3,500 Pound Axle
Updated 05/02/2022 | Published 04/30/2022 >
Question:
Im looking at buying a 3500lb axle to lower my trailer a few inches. I need to move the spring seats to match up to my trailers leaf springs. Is 9.5inch from the spring center to the hubface acceptable? Ive read max is 9, but this is so close!

Expert Reply:
The difference between the hub face and spring center measurements are recommended to be no more than 18". In other words, 9" from the spring seat to the hub face on each side. When replacing your axle with something like the # 35545I-EZ-89 you should be choosing an axle with the same hub face measurement you have now. If your replacement axle is the same length as your current axle, and you also match your current spring center distance, you will not have a problem.
