Will Hubs and Drums From 3,500 Pound Axle Fit 5,200 Pound Axle

Hi Need to replace both axels on a travel trailer. Existing is Dexter 3500 w/ 86.5inch HF to HF. Is it possible to upgrade to the 5200 axel and still reuse the existing hubs and drums/ rims? Not necessary to upgrade weight, looking for a stronger axel without expense of replacing everything. Thanks

Although you could replace your existing axle with the Dexter Trailer Axle Beam # 8327816, you would not be able to use your existing hubs and drums with this axle. The wheels could still be used as long as the new hubs match the bolt pattern. Since the spring seat measurement is 71-1/2" you would also need to cut off the spring seats and put on # TRSS300 to match your 68-1/2" measurement.
If you want to use your existing hubs and drums, I recommend the Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System - Straight Spindle Only - 3,500 lbs # ASR3500S05. This fits any frame width so you won't have to worry about finding an 86-1/2" 3,500 lb axle. This system will also upgrade and replace your suspension. It uses # L68149 inner and # L44649 outer bearings.
If you would rather use the # 8327816 5,200 lb axle, you could use the Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # K08-201-98. This has a 6 on 5-1/2 bolt pattern so it is possible it matches your wheels. If not, new wheels would need to be acquired. You would also have to replace your brakes with something like the # AKEBRK-6 since these use 12" brake assemblies and you would have 10" on your current setup.
