Question:

Is my 2005 GMC Savana 1500 pre-wired from the factory for brake controller installation? I have a teskonsha prodigy P2 brake controler from my last car, but i dont have the wiring anymore. Can i buy a connector special for the GMC 1500 Savana from 2005 or is there no plug int he car pre installed? What part do I have to order? A replacement wiring or is there a custom connector for this car. Can you inform me about part number. Thanks.

We do not offer a plug-and-play harness option for installing a Tekonsha P2 in your 2005 GMC Savana 1500, so in this vehicle brake controller installation will be hard-wired.

If it has a factory-installed 7-way trailer connector at the rear bumper then there should be an unterminated blue wire above the brake pedal; this blue wire will carry the brake controller output signal back to your 7-way. If there is no 7-way factory trailer connector you will need a complete installation kit, part # ETBC7. If the Savana does not have a 4-pole flat trailer connector at the rear, then you will also need one of these; I recommend Tow-Ready # 118392, which simply plugs into the two tail light assemblies without need to cut or splice wires.

If you no longer have the harness that plugs into the back of the P2, you will also need a pigtail harness, part # 7894. This will plug into the back of the P2 and provide the 4 wire leads for connection to the vehicle. The functions for each wire are as follows: black wire carries 12V power from the vehicle battery to the brake controller (via a circuit breaker included in the ETBC7); red wire carries brake light signal from the brake pedal switch to the brake controller; white wire is ground; and the blue wire carries the controller output signal to the 7-way for the trailer brakes.

The 4-pole Tow-Ready harness will plug into the back of the 7-way connector that is included in the ETBC7. This 4-pole connector provides running, brake and turn light signals. The photo provided shows the remainder of the connections to be made for each of the wire leads at the back of the 7-way. The blue wire on the 7-way will connect to the blue output wire on the P2. The black wire from the 7-way will connect to your battery through a circuit breaker (included in the kit) to provide 12V power for the trailer. The purple wire is for an auxiliary circuit, if needed, such as for trailer reverse lights or reverse lockout for electric trailer brakes. The white wire is a ground and needs to be firmly attached to a clean bare-metal surface on the Savana frame.
