Upgrading The Landing Gear On A 2014 Arctic Fox 27-5L

Updated 01/31/2022 | Published 01/29/2022

Question:

I just had the lead leg on my arctic fox 27-5l go out. I would like to swap to the dual motor setup from Reese that you recommended to another person. But when I measure inside to inside of the mounting brackets, mine are 15 1/2 inches. The specs on the Reese setup show the welded tabs on the legs at 15 1/2 inches inside to inside which would put the mounting bracket at 17 1/2 inside to inside. Is it possible to still use the Reese system if only 1 welded tab is contacting the mounting tabs?

When installing landing gear, you definitely want to make sure your are sandwiching the tabs with the brackets on each leg or the tabs need to be sandwiching the brackets. Either way, you definitely need to make sure both are making contact. This way the leg will stay secure when extending and retracting.

With that said, tabs and brackets not matching is a pretty common when upgrading or changing out landing gear. If you want to go with the Reese Reese Electric 5th Wheel Landing Gear Set RP500708, which will be more heavy duty than what came on your 2014 Arctic Fox 27-5L, you will need to have one of the brackets cut off and a new one welded in the correct place. As this is common, it does actually include new brackets for just this purpose.
