How to Convert Trailer Air Brakes to Electric or Hydraulic Brakes
Updated 01/20/2022 | Published 01/15/2022 >
Question:
I am contemplating purchasing a trailer with air brakes. My truck has hydraulic brakes. What is the best option to convert the trailer so that I can use it on the highway? The trailer is a dual tandem setup, not an RV type. Thanks

In order to convert the brakes on this trailer you will need to know a few things and make some decisions. The first thing to decide is do you want electric brakes or hydraulic brakes. I would recommend electric brakes as the best option since they will work well and be cheaper when compared to hydraulic.
After you make this decision you will need to choose the correct parts. Assuming you add electric brakes you are going to need a hub and drum for electric brakes, an electric brake assembly, trailer wiring, a breakaway kit, and a brake controller like the # RED44FR. You also need to make sure you have a 7-way on your vehicle.
I have attached some helpful articles which show all of the parts needed to convert your brakes that you can check out. If you let me know some information about your axle and bearings I would be happy to help you find the right hub and drum assembly along with brakes that fit.
