I can definitely get you setup with trailer wiring for your 2022 Subaru Crosstrek Sport. When you are towing, you are limited to the lowest maximum weight capacity between your hitch receiver and your vehicle. Your Subaru Crosstrek has a maximum towing capacity of 1,500 lbs, which is probably lower than your hitch receiver's maximum weight capacity. If that is not the case, you will be limited to your hitch receivers maximum weight capacity. Also keep in mind, any trailer that you tow above 1,000 lbs will need trailer braking, so my wiring recommendation will allow you to tow trailers with trailer brakes and without.

After you get a hitch receiver installed, you need a 4-way flat wiring harness in order to tow a trailer. The wiring harness allows your trailer to mirror the brake lights, turn signals, and running lights of the tow vehicle. My recommendation is the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector, part # 118467. It is a plug and play setup, so you will not have to splice any wires to install this wiring harness on your Subaru Crosstrek Sport.

The next step, is to setup your vehicle for towing a trailer that has brakes. In order to do that, you need wiring to help power a brake controller. The Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat - 10 Gauge Wires, part # ETBC7, is perfect for this. After this kit is installed, you will still have a working 4-way connector AND a 7-way connector installed on your vehicle.

If you decide to tow a trailer with brakes, take a look at the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller - 2 Braking Modes - 1 to 3 Axles - Proportional, part # RED44FR. This brake controller is as unobtrusive as a brake controller can be, just a single knob that will control the braking power that is applied to your trailer. It is a progressive trailer brake, so the power you apply in your tow vehicle is also applied to your trailer. It is a plug and play unit, so it will plug directly into your Subaru Crosstrek's existing wiring. I do have one last thing I recommend you get, the Dielectric Grease for Electrical Connectors, 2 oz., part # 11755. You should use this grease for your electrical connections. It will help prevent rust and corrosion in your electric wiring.

I have included product description links, a video installation of trailer wiring on a Subaru Crosstrek, and video review links below.
