Can I Install A Rooftop Tent On My 2018 Toyota Highlander

Question:

I have a 2018 Toyota Highlander XLE with a factory roof rack. Crossbar space is 28. I want to mount a roof top tent with a minimum crossbar space of 30 and prefer 32. Is there any solution?

I do have a solution. Unfortunately, you will have to go with a different rooftop tent. You cannot move your crossbars to create the necessary crossbar spread that you need because your factory crossbars are at a fixed distance. That distance does not change when you install an aftermarket roof rack. The towers/feet will be attached at the same spot, approximately 28" apart. You also cannot go with a naked roof install because the flush rails will get in the way.

However, the Yakima SkyRise HD Tent for Roof Rack Crossbars - 2 Person - 400 lbs - Tan and Red, part # Y07436, or 3 Person - 600 lbs, part # Y07437, can fit on a roof rack with a crossbar spread as narrow as 26".
