Installing a Brake Controller on a 2012 Ford F-150 with a Factory 4-Way Trailer Connector
Updated 04/10/2020 | Published 07/02/2013 >
Question:
2012 F150 STX, No factory tow. Tekonsha, Voyager hard wired version. I see the Orange charging wire dead ended at the plug mounted on the left front inner fender. However, at this point, Im looking for the Blue wire for the electric brake to trailer. The wire is in the TBC connector by the steering column. The article seems to say, that the Blue wire can also be found in the same connector as the Orange wire on the left inner fender. Is this correct? Also, I have your adapter cable P/N 22292. Regards

Since your 2012 Ford F-150 did not come with the factory to package, the blue wire for the electric brake output can be located at the manufacturers connector in the engine compartment on the drivers side near the firewall. You will notice a dark blue wire going into the connector, but not coming out.
I have attached an installation video showing where this wire is located. I recommend watching the entire installation video because it explains how to install a 7-way trailer connector, but the brake output wire in the engine compartment can be seen at the 4 minute mark.
The correct brake controller wiring adapter for your truck is part # 22292. This adapter will fit in the brake controller port under the dash of your F-150. You can simply cut off the black connector on this adapter and splice the wires to your Tekonsha Voyager color for color.

So watching the video you just bypass the orange wire entirely in lue of a direct connect to the battery through the 40 amp breaker correct?
