Tips on Installing the Top Hooks on a Thule OutWay Trunk Mount Bike Rack and 2010 Mini Cooper

Question:
I have a 2010 Mini Cooper hardtop. I am trying to install the Thule 9001 but the top hooks will not slide onto the top of the hatchback above the small spoiler. Any suggestions?

When I first got my Raceway bike rack, I had the same problem. There are a couple of things that you can try to get the top hooks in place. First, what works for me is to put the hook above the opening it needs to go into and then pushing it into place. The coating protects the vehicle from any damage.
Another thing you can do is pull out some slack from the retractable cable and try to get the hook in at the corner or edge and then slide it over into position. This works for me when I use the rack on our SUV.
The Thule OutWay # TH45JV is the newest rack in this carrier line. It is the absolute easiest to install of all of the carriers that I have seen. It now only uses only 2 straps to secure the rack. Check it out in the attached video.
