Do the friction points wear out?

There are a few weight distribution systems, like the Reese Steadi-Flex # RP66558, that use actual friction pads that are similar to a brake pad that will wear out over time, but typically this is not something that you need to worry about with other systems.
As another example, the Equal-i-zer # EQ37121ET is constructed from chromoly steel and will not be an issue. However, due to Newton's 3rd Law of Motion, I cannot say it will never happen, but I have never actually seen it and there are some very old Equal-i-zer systems still in use..
