Will Towing Affect Transmission On 2012 Audi A7
Updated 08/25/2021 | Published 08/24/2021 >
Question:
I have an Audi A7 2012, stock was 310hp, I raised it stage 1 APR Chip to 464hp. I bought the Stealth Hitch and I have towed an empty 6x12 cargo trailer so far. When will the towing affect the transmission, or does it?

Helpful Expert Reply:
If you are towing within the confines of the vehicle manufacturer, there should not be many adverse affects on wear or breakdown. That said, the main factor to transmission breakdown and wear is increased temperature so if you wanted to be sure to extend the life as much as possible you could add a transmission cooler. This is a pretty popular add-on for towing. I recommend the Derale Series 9000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit part # D13613.
