Do Trailer Wheels And Tires Require Balancing?
Updated 07/10/2021 | Published 07/08/2021 >
Question:
Are the trailer tire and wheel packages balanced ? Do they need to be balanced ?
asked by: Edward K
Helpful Expert Reply:
Our trailer tire and wheel packages do not come balanced as they do not require it. Trailer wheel and tires are designed to support heavy loads and generally not looked at for a smooth vibration free ride. That is the same reason you virtually never see shocks on a trailer.
Vehicles that carry passengers will have the wheels balanced to provide a smooth ride for the passengers inside the vehicle as well as provide a smoother ride for the suspension and steering components. Since trailers generally only have leaf springs and no steering or other suspension parts they do not require the tires to be balanced.
If you wish to have the wheels and tires balanced you can have it done at a local tire shop but remember that since trailer tires are generally lug centric they will need to use a lug centric adapter to achieve a proper balance.
