What does the 113/108 L mean on a tire

The 113/108 L is the load index which is normally translated to pounds capacity. For instance the 113 is 2,535 lbs maximum capacity and 108 is 2,205 lbs.

For instance the Westlake ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range D # 274-000012 has a maximum capacity of 2,040 lbs at 65 psi and a maximum speed rating of 75 mph. This tire also comes with a 5 year warranty and 2 years complimentary roadside assistance. This tire has a load index of 105/101 L.

This tire also has a speed rating of L which is 75 mph maximum. That L is listed below the load index on most tires.

Regarding the "113/108L" printed on the tire: why are TWO load ratings listed?

The two load ranges refer to the capacity when used as a single or dual wheel application. The higher number is for single wheels and if used in a dually setup you would go by the lower number.

@ChrisR why would the load rating be less with dual tires over single tires?

@RaymondW I'm not 100% sure but I just think it has to do with where the tire sits on the axle and that there has to be enough room for 2 of them.
