Question:

I have read that the Thule XT and XTR turn knob lock is not up to snuff and can easily be broken into. It was suggested to use something like this product from Saris to help lock the bike rack to the car and hitch. Could you tell me how this will work? Will it work?

I'll start out by saying that the Saris Locking Hitch Pin # SA3022 is not going to be the correct solution for this, since it's not going to replace the locking knob. However, having personally used the Thule T2 Pro XTR # TH83JV, I found the locking knob you're referring to pretty sturdy and easy to use. There is not an alternative replacement I'm aware of.

With all of that said, the Thule T2 Pro XTR # TH83JV comes with a lifetime limited warranty would cover any defects on the knob.
