Question:
I am changing the brake assembly and I am wondering will I need a right hand and a left hand assembly or is both sides the same.

You will need a right hand and left hand assembly. They are different and will only work properly on the correct side of the trailer. You will know you have the correct assembly in the right place if the actuator arm that is attached to the magnet points towards the front of the trailer. I edited a picture of assembly # 23-27 to show you what I mean. This assembly goes on the right side of the trailer. The matching left side is # 23-26.
