Recommended Surge Brake Actuator For 7800lb Tandem Axle Boat Trailer W/ Disc Brakes
Updated 06/02/2021 | Published 06/01/2021 >
Question:
Im trying to decide on the 8k or the 12,500 limit surge actuator for disc brakes. My tandem axle trailer and 24 foot boat when loaded with gear and fluids is around 7800 lbs. Id love to save money and get the 8k, but happy to get the 12,500 if that makes more sense. My question is: will the 12,500 limit actuator perform differently or be out of spec on my size of trailer and load, since Im really no where close to 12,500 lbs? Thank you.

You would have no problems what so ever going with an 8000lb rated coupler since you are only at 7800lbs, and going with a 12500lb coupler would cause a little more jerky braking due to the different size springs used for the trailer to apply the brakes.
With that said I recommend the Dexter Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator # T4747220 is rated for 8000lbs and is designed for disc brakes like what is on your trailer.
