Parts Needed to Add Disc Brakes or EOH Brakes to Tandem 3,500 lb Axles on Boat Trailer

Published 05/17/2022

Question:

Hey Kyle, I'm looking at going with and electric over hydraulic system with disc brakes now. I see you have a kit with an electric actuator and disc brakes for 13 in, but I have the 10-in with five on four and a half. I assume I need a 1600 PSI actuator for a tandem trailer. Is there a kit you sell with those parts or do I need to purchase them separately?

We can get both of your axles set up with disc brakes, and for 3,500 lb axles, since you are converting to disc brakes you'll need a hub-and-rotor disc brake assembly. For the correct kit, as well as the disc brake actuator and brake lines, here is everything you'll need (note for a tandem axle trailer you'll need two of the disc brake kits):

- Kodiak Disc Brake Kit - 10" Hub/Rotor - 5 on 4-1/2 - Dacromet # K2HR35D

- Bearing Kit for Trailer Brakes w/ 8" or 10" Hub/Rotor - 3,500 lbs # DBRKHW35

- Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator - Disc - 2-5/16" Ball - Bolt On - 8,000 lbs # T4747200

- Kodiak Hydraulic Brake Line Kit - Tandem Axle # 20TA-BLKIT

As for the prices, they can be found below where the products are listed, or on the product pages.

You are correct that you'll need a 1,600 psi electric over hydraulic actuator for disc brakes, and there isn't a complete kit for that, so you would need to purchase them separate. But you can use the brake kit, bearing kit, and brake line kit above and just add a couple more parts to get the right set up, which is the actuator, breakaway kit, and 7-way with junction box: - Hydrastar Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator for Disc Brakes - 1,600 psi # HBA16 - Hopkins Engager Push-To-Test Trailer Breakaway Kit with Built-In Battery Charger # 20400 - Junction Box - 7 Terminal # 3375601100 - 7-Way RV Style Connector with Molded Cable - Trailer End - 8' Long # H20046 or 4' Long # H20043
