What Would Cause Water Intrusion on Oil Bath Hubs
Updated 05/24/2021 | Published 05/21/2021 >
Question:
I have oil bath hubs on my EZ loader trailer also has electric over hydraulic disk brakes and I am getting water in the oil I suspect the rubber plug in the center isnt water proof. Does anyone make a screw in plug that seats against an O ring? If not, do you have any advice for me on how to make my oil bath hubs marine?

Expert Reply:
Are you backing your trailer into the water when the hubs are hot? Typically that's what causes water intrusion into trailer hubs that use oil seals. If the seal can keep oil in without leaks it would be waterproof so the hot hub theory is probably correct. Let the hubs cool down and you should see the issue stop.
