The Roadmaster base plate adpater bar is designed to fit base plates that would be on a specific vehicle and does not attach to the vehicle itself. Before you do anything else, consult the truck owners manual to determine if it can be flat towed and if there are any special requirements.

To add base plates on a 2002 Ford F-150, if it is a 2-wheel drive model and is not a Harley Davidson or Lightening model then you can use # 492-1 for base plates. For a 4-wheel drive that is not a diesel or Harley Davidson model use # 456-15.

With the base plates installed you would only use the adapter if you were using the Tow Ready tow bar # 63180. But I would not use this tow bar because it is only rated for 5,000 pounds and has a maximum speed rating of 45 miles per hour. Instead I recommend the Falcon 2, # RM-520, rated for 6,000 pounds and you can tow at highway speeds.

In addition to the base plates and tow bar you will also need safety cables, # RM-643, and a lighting solution such as a simple magnetic kit, # RM-2120.

Most states now require supplemental braking in the vehicle being towed. The easiest system to set up and use is the Even Brake proportional system # RM-9400. It applies the trucks brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the safest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.

I have included some helpful links on flat towing for you to view.
