Some troubleshooting steps to take are:
1. Ensure the batteries you put in are good and in the remote the correct way. There are no expiration dates on the battery packages so you could've bought a pack that has bad batteries in it. Ensuring the positive and negative sides of the battery are in the correct positions is also important.
2. Check to make sure the fireplace has the proper amount of power running to it. You'll want to check the breaker and make sure it hasn't popped and that it's fully plugged into the outlet.
3. If the manual switch for the fireplace is in the ON position this can sometimes override the remote signal so you'll want to make sure it's in the OFF position.
4. The remote transmitter may need to be reprogrammed to your fireplace. There should be a step by step guide in the owner's manual for your fireplace if this applies.
5. The remote could be damaged and needs to be replaced. Occasionally remotes short out and need to be replaced.
