What Size Brakes Are Used on 5200-lbs Dexter Axles

Updated 04/04/2021 | Published 04/01/2021

Question:

I am having a hard time deciding what size brake assembly I will need on my 2012 26foot United enclosed trailer with 5200# Dexter Axles. I will be trying to adjust the brakes this weekend but if that fails I will be needing to replace the assembly. Last time I used it while hauling my car I had zero trailer brakes, not a good feeling. How do I know what assembly will fit my trailer ?

Typically a 5200-lbs axle will have 12" drums and brakes, so you're going to want to use something like the # AKEBRK-7-SA, which are a 12" electric brake assembly that are self adjusting so you won't have to worry about your brakes being out of adjustment again. You can measure the inside of the drums to confirm this, but 12" brakes are fairly standard on a 5200-lbs axle.
