How To Fix Demco DA20 Surge Brake Actuator Slamming Brakes When Accelerating and Braking

Question:
I have a boat trailer with 12,500lb capacity and a demco DA20 surge brake actuator. when towing with my 8000-10000lb boat the surge brake slams back and for when braking and accelerating. I purchased a new master cylinder and bleed the brakes about 5 oz. of brake fluid until no air bubbles. and the slamming is still occuring. I have on order 2 new dampers and a push rod since they looked to be in bad shape. do you think that will fix it?

Helpful Expert Reply:
Based on the issue you are discribing of the brakes slamming when braking or accelerating it sounds like the shock on your Demco DA20 surge brake actuator is bad.
I recommend replacing it with the Replacement Shock for Demco Hydraulic Trailer Brake Actuators - Models DA10, DA16, DA20, and DA91 # DS12426 which will remedy the issue you currently have.
I included a video of the # DS12426 for you to take a look at.
