This actuator comes unassembled and unprimed so you can weld it straight to your trailer without worrying about heat damage to internal parts. Since the master cylinder and hardware aren’t installed yet, the weld stays clean and strong. Once it’s mounted, you can prime and paint it to match your trailer. There are no extra steps and nothing to disassemble first.
Built from heavy-duty steel, this surge-type actuator is made for tough jobs. It’s designed to weld on top of a 3" wide trailer tongue and handle up to 20,000 lbs gross towing weight with 2,000 lbs maximum tongue weight. The adjustable flat plate offers four mounting positions so you can line up different flat-mount coupler attachments just the way you need them.
The master cylinder uses glass-reinforced nylon for strength that won’t rust or corrode like metal. Inside, a large reservoir holds plenty of brake fluid, cutting down on refills during long trips. It’s sealed with an automotive-style diaphragm cap that keeps contaminants out for more reliable braking performance over time.
If the trailer ever disconnects, the built-in breakaway lever automatically activates the brakes to bring it to a stop. A safety cable with a snap hook attaches securely to the lever so it’s always ready when needed. The acetal copolymer lining inside helps everything move smoothly as the actuator telescopes in and out for consistent braking every time.
Because this actuator does not include a reverse lockout, it is recommended that you equip your trailer with free-backing brakes so that you can drive in reverse without the actuator triggering your trailer's brakes.

Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a quick look at this Demco Unassembled Hydraulic Brake Actuator. This is a DA20 hydraulic actuator that's going to activate your trailer's hydraulic drum brakes when your tow vehicle slows or stops. This does come unassembled and unprimed, so that you can very quickly and easily weld this onto your trailer frame, and it's going to help prevent any damage to the internal components while you're welding it in place. This will weld onto a straight three inch wide trailer tongue. This is a heavy-duty steel construction, so it is going to give us a gross towing weight capacity of 20,000 pounds and a maximum tongue weight of 2,000 pounds.
This does have this adjustable plate for different mounting positions for your coupler. This is designed for your flat mount coupler attachments only. As you can see, the distance between these mounting holes, center to center horizontally, is 4 1/2 inches, vertically, they're right at about 2 1/4 of an inch apart, center to center. We're also going to get these acetal copolymer linings that are going to help prevent any friction, give us a nice, smooth operation as our actuator telescopes in and out inside our unit here. Our composite master cylinder is going to be very durable and efficient, it's got a nice, large reservoir, so it's gonna provide increased capacity for your brake fluid.
It's got a glass reinforced nylon construction, so it will resist rust and corrosion. We do have the automotive style diaphragm cap here that's gonna create completely enclosed system to help prevent any contamination of your fluid. So like I said, this does come disassembled, so all these components will assemble together to create that whole system, so you can just get your brake lines plugged in, and it will operate properly. They do also include the breakaway lever that will attach up here and it will be activated, if your trailer we're to come disconnected, it's gonna pull that lever forward, so that the brakes are applied, so that your trailer can come to a nice, safe, controlled stop instead of continuing down the highway unconnected from your vehicle. So overall, really nice system here to get those hydraulic drum brakes applied on your trailer.
This is made here in the USA, so you can trust it's made to the high quality standards that we've come to know and trust for products made here in the US. We do have lots of other options, if you're not interested in welding, you wouldn't need it to be disassembled, so it'd be a little bit less effort for you if you just got an assembled model, but if you are wanting to weld it onto your trailer frame, this is the way to go. That completes our look for today. Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com, thanks for watching..
