Question:
Does etrailer sell a weight distribution hitch that is designed to work with a car trailer that has an 8inch wide x 2inch thick a-frame? I believe the frame is designed at 8inch wide because it is made out of aluminum. Attached are two pictures of the a-frame. As I learned from the the trailer manufacturer, Featherlite, the tread plate cover over the a-frame is not structural and therefore it could be notched to accommodate the fitting of weight distribution hitch mounting bracket.

I recommend the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System # EQ37140ET. Using this system you will also get sway control to make things much safer when you are driving. This system is rated for a tongue weight of 1,000-1,400lbs and a maximum trailer weight of 14,000lbs. If your trailer is less than that please let me know and I can recommend a more suited system.
You will need to get different link plates for your 8" frame. I suggested this type of system primarily because of your aluminum frame. These plates # EQ90-02-5378 & # EQ90-02-5208 will sandwich on your frame rather than having a steel bolt that pushes into the Aluminum and could cause damage.
To install your hitch the manufacturer recommends the Thin Wall Socket # EQ70-00-4800 to properly install the 2-5/16" ball that is included with the hitch. I recommend using the Sway Bracket Jackets # EQ95-01-5150 to ensure the hitch lasts and give you a quieter ride while driving.
