Recommended Axle-Less Torsion System for Custom Lightweight Trailer

Updated 03/23/2021 | Published 03/19/2021

Question:

Hi, Im interested in getting a small Ironton/Harbor Freight trailer and upgrading it with larger wheels and torsion suspension. The application would be for a 300lb pizza oven. Its important that the trailer doesnt bounce or shake a lot so the stones in the oven do not break. The trailer wouldnt be loaded with anything else thats very heavy except the oven. Am I correct in thinking that the torsion suspension and some bigger wheels would help for a smoother ride? I can put together the kit easy enough but my knowledge of trailers is limited to none. I was wondering if you had any recommendations for the torsion axles or axle less and wheels.

The Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System with Hubs part # A12RS440 is a great option for help with improved ride quality. Unlike traditional leaf spring suspension systems, you'll get a smooth and stable ride regardless of load size due to the progressive-rate main springs. This will perfect for trailers with delicate loads.

Then for wheels and tires, this would really come down to fender clearance but the Loadstar ST175/80D13 Bias Trailer Tire with 13" White Wheel part # AM3S120 is one of the largest available options.
