Question:
Hello, I would like to be able to carry 4 bikes on my 2014 Toyota Prius V. I think a hitch-style rack would work best, but Im at a complete loss as to what I need. We currently do not have any hitch on our car, and Im generally pretty unfamiliar with hitch systems. We would be carrying 2 adult and 2 childrens 14 and 16 bikes. Thanks for any help!

Ok, we can definitely get you set up to carry four bikes with your 2014 Toyota Prius v, and you are correct that in order to do that you will need a trailer hitch receiver and a hitch-mounted bike rack. First off, let's start with the hitch, and the one you will need is from EcoHitch:
- EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver # 306-X7192
The reason you will need this hitch is because it is the only hitch for your Prius v that has a 2 inch receiver; the other hitches for your Prius v are Class I hitches with a 1-1/4 inch receiver, and Class I hitches are limited to carrying only two bikes.
The other thing you will need is a 4-bike rack, and I recommend going with a hanging-style rack as these are a more economical option than platform racks while keeping your bikes safely and securely mounted to the rack. The rack I really like for you is the Hollywood Racks Traveler 4-Bike Carrier # HR8500.
The Traveler has rubber anti-sway cradles to keep your bikes steady on the rack, and comes with an anti-rattle bolt to ensure you have a quieter, more peaceful ride than a rack without one. It does not lock though if you want to add an anti-theft deterrent you can do so with the Anti-Rattle Hitch Lock and Cable Lock for Hollywood Racks # HRLHPTC.
Since you plan on carrying kids' bikes, and if your other bikes have a step-through or alternative frame you will need to give those bikes a horizontal mounting point by using an adapter, the Bike Frame Adapter Bar # 64005.
I have added links below to video reviews for you to check out as well of the adapter and Hollywood Racks Traveler 4-Bike Carrier # HR8500.
