Question:
I have a 24’ gooseneck lowboy trailer. The axle sticker says that it has 7,000 lb axles. But it has 6 lug hubs and wheels. Is this normal? How hard would it be to upgrade to 8 lug hubs? Also one axle is a idler axle. Could I just upgrade to brakes on it? Or would I have to change out the axle?

In order to swap from 6-lug hubs to 8-lug hubs on a 7K axle you simply need new hubs, the Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly part # AKHD-865-7-1-EZ-K. The Electric Trailer Brake Kit part # AKEBRK-6 can then be used to add brakes to the un-braked axle.
It is not very common to have 6-lug hubs on a 7K axle so this will be a great option for better parts compatibility.
