Spread of Short Bed SideBar Rails for Yakima OverHaul HD and Outpost HD

Question:
Can the sidebars, with the “T” channel be cut and then reassembled for a configuration shorter than what is advertised. Does the assembly involve one bar sliding inside the other or is this a moot endeavor based on construction ? Looking to make a “long bed version into a short bed” version.

The Yakima SideBar Rails cannot be cut as the assembly does in fact involve one bar sliding into the other like you mentioned and it would not be structurally sound, but there is a short bed version of these rails, which is the SideBar Rails for Yakima OverHaul HD and Outpost HD Truck Bed Racks - Short Bed # Y01153.
These rails have a crossbar spread that is adjustable from 36 inches to 64 inches for short bed trucks.
