Question:
Do I need to install a diode between the brake pedal switch and the brake controller on the red wire? It has Toyota Safty Sence features.

Expert Reply:
On your 2019 Toyota Highlander Hybrid, you do not disconnect the brake light switch. On Hybrids unless the battery is disconnected or ignition is in the off position you may set off a code in the computer system that limits the vehicle's motion. I recommend disconnecting your battery completely just to be safe. You do not need a diode for your brake light switch wire you will simply use a quick splice connector you can see in the attached video (at 19:45 mark) for installation.
I recommend the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller # RED24FR and the # ETBC7 if you don't have a 7-way. If you have a 7-way then you can use # 5506 for the wiring and circuit breaker.
