Question:

My 2019 Toyota Highlander came equipped with factory tow package including flat-4-way wiring. Can I install this product on my vehicle? If not, what do I need to install 7-way connector and a trailer brake controller?

Yes, the Tekonsha OEM Replacement Vehicle Wiring Harness item # 22119 will fit your 2019 Toyota Highlander. This will provide you with a 7-Way connector and a Tekonsha brake controller adapter.

This wiring harness is custom fit and plugs directly into a port in the cargo area of your Highlander. The only wiring you will have to do is for the brake controller adapter. I have linked an installation video below.

For a compatible brake controller, I recommend the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller item # RED24FR. The Tow-Pro Liberty has a unique installation method where the main unit is concealed behind your dash and the only visible part is the control knob.

To complete the installation you will also need the Tow-Pro Wiring Adapter for Tekonsha Brake Controller Harness item # 331-TPH-017. This adapter will allow you to plug directly into the brake controller port for a simple installation.

I also recommend the Mounting Panel for Redarc Tow-Pro Trailer Brake Controller Control Knob item # 331-TPSI-002 is designed specifically for your Highlander. This will allow you to install the control knob inside one of the knock out panels on your dash.

Hi Jerrid, You suggest getting the Redarc Tow-pro Liberty Brake Controller #RED24FR. However, when I click on it, it states it is not compatible with my 19 Toyota Highlander XLE? Is there a different one I should use? Thanks Nancy

@Nancy The Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller item # RED24FR will fit your 2019 Toyota Highlander it just doesn't have the wiring harness you'll need to get it installed. For that combo kit you'd want item # RED52VR. Same exact brake controller is included with both.

Thank you for this write up Jerred. We have a new to us 2019 Highlander XLE, The dealer is installing the Toyota hitch but their wiring kit was 4 blade and not set up for brake controller. I see your following comment to include the # RED52VR vs the # RED24FR in your original reply. I've added # 331-TPH-017 and # 22119 and # 331-TPSI-002 to my cart. This looks like the cleanest installation kit combo available. Just making sure before i order. Those videos will be very helpful too. Is this the best configuration?

@Andrew It absolutely is! The etrailer Adjustable 2-Ball Mount item # e66PR and the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock for 2" Hitch item # e98882 are the only things that I would add to your setup.
