Question:
My boat has a 5 pin connector coming out of it, but my truck has the 4 and 7 pin connector on it. When I bought the boat, someone have put a Simone 7 to 5 adaptor on it, but it does not allow use of the trailer brakes...what adaptor would I use to also use the trailer brakes?

Expert Reply:
A boat trailer with a 5 pin flat trailer connector on it would typically be equipped with hydraulic surge brakes. The extra pin controls an electric lockout solenoid on the surge coupler that prevents the brakes from actuating when the trailer is backed up. The center pin on the truck's 7-way should be tapped into the truck's reverse lamp circuit, so that the pin gets voltage when the transmission is shifted into reverse.
If the adapter you spoke of is like the part # A57WB we offer, then it should work fine for you. If the brakes are actuating when you try to back the trailer, then I'd check your 7-way on the truck to make sure it's tied into the trucks reverse lamp circuit as it's supposed to be.
