Question:

Hello, can you break this kit down to only the ubolts, metal plates, and thumb screws, or can I buy individually, as I only need the mounting hardware. Also, is there something better, like the Yakima clamps I could retrofit to my SportRack Vista XL. OR any suggestions to avoid damaging my cross bars with the metal u bolts and metal plates? Thanks

The SportRack Replacement Hardware Kit for Explorer and SkyLine XL Roof Mounted Cargo Boxes # SR05587 has basic components for mounting. Just the crossbar mounting hardware for this kit is found in the Replacement Hardware Kit for Searsbox Cargo Box # TH05603. Not all of those components are available separately, so you will want this kit for all those parts.

Not all mounting hardware will work with this box even retrofitted, so if you want further options for your crossbars, you may want to consider the Replacement Mounting Hardware for Thule Weekender Cargo Box # 1032802 or the Yakima Replacement Mounting Hardware for Rhode Gear or ProRack Rooftop Cargo Box 10 # 8870098. These are a similar style and may require drilling. Newer style adjustable clamps will not work with this cargo box.
