Can 225/75-16 Tires be Replaced with ST235/80-16 Tires on 2001 Carriage Cameo 30R 5th Wheel Trailer

Question:

i am currently running 225/75/r16. E rating. I am considering upgradeing to a 235/80/r16 with an E rating. Can I use the same rims, and is there a big difference. I have a Carriage Cameo, 30R, 2001, fifth wheel. Also, if I order a tie and wheel assembly, does it come with tire mounted on the wheel?

A 225/75-16 is not a standard trailer tire size. It may be a light truck or passenger vehicle tire size. Always make sure you are using trailer tires (indicated by an ST in front of the tire size).

A 225/75-16 will be 30.184 inches in diameter and 8.865 inches wide. The larger ST235/80-16 is 30.9 inches in diameter and 9.259 inches wide. You would need to make sure that there is enough clearance above and at the back of the existing tires for the larger size.

Both tires will fit on the same rim. If you order a tire and wheel combo, the tires does come mounted on the wheel.

Keep in mind that going to a larger size will not allow the trailer to carry more weight. The capacity of the trailer is set by the axle capacity. If the tires are rated higher than the axle, you can still use the tires but you will still need to go by the capacity of the lowest rated component in the system.
