Advice for Routing Power Wire for Tekonsha Trailer Wiring on 2020 Subaru Ascent
Updated 06/15/2020 | Published 06/11/2020 >
Question:
Do you offer any technical advice on how and where to run the black power wire from the module to the battery? The instructions with the kit say to run it inside or outside. Pretty general. More advice would be helpful.

Basically all of the instructions for trailer wiring like the Tekonsha # 118290 for your 2020 Subaru Ascent are kind of vague when it comes to routing the power wire to the battery which is why we came up with a helpful article on this (see attached).
Although it seems like a pain, the easiest way to route the wire is by going under the vehicle. If there are any places where you can run the wire through the frame of your vehicle then do that as it will be the easiest way to avoid damage to the wiring. Otherwise try to avoid any hot or moving areas so that your wring will be safe. We found it easiest to follow the brake lines as those are put in safe locations from the manufacturer so you can rest easy with the wire there.
Use zip ties to keep the wiring from sagging and then also try to shoot for fairly straight shots so that you don't have to get extra wire to reach your battery.
If you have any other questions just let me know!
