For a bike rack we have a handful of options but what you're going to be wanting is a platform rack that is classified as a wheel mount. This means that it will have the weight capacity needed for your 40 lb E-Bike and then an arm that secures your bike by the wheel and not the frame.
If you only plane on carrying your 1 bike then I recommend using the RockyMounts HighNoon FC Solo Bike Rack for 1 Bike - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Wheel Mount # RKY87RR because it is just smaller and easier to move around and store than a 2 bike rack. This comes with the standard bike and rack locks plus the ability to fold up when not in use to reduce the length added to your Arteon.
If you regularly bike with someone else or would like the option to invite someone else along then I recommend using the Kuat NV 2.0 Base # BA12B. This bike rack looks good and feels good to use. This is personally my favorite bike rack simply because Kuat has taken everything you'll want in a bike rack and integrated it into this.
From locks, to folding/tilting features (activated by a foot pedal), to the ability to add a Ramp # ANVBRB for easier loading of heavy bikes, you will enjoy this bike rack so much that you won't want to take it off of your vehicle. No joke, pretty much everyone that owns a NV 2.0 keeps it on their vehicle all the time.
