Question:
what is the maximum tilt angle for this bike rack. I.e. with an 8inch hitch extension, installed on a MB Sprinter can the rear door be open with the rack tilted?

In order to open the rear doors on a Sprinter van with bike rack attached you have two great options. The first is to use any bike rack with 2" shank like the Thule T2 Pro XTR 2 Bike Platform Rack part # TH83JV with a swing-away adapter like the Yakima BackSwing Swing Away Hitch Extender for Bike Racks part # y02483. This option is great if you already have a bike rack you want to reuse. If not, the best option is to use the RockyMounts BackStage 2 Bike Platform Rack part # RKY10002 which has a swing-away adapter built-in. With these two options you will be able to open the rear doors with the bike rack and bikes still attached.
I don't have any specifications on the tilt angle of the Thule T2 Pro XTR but using this with an adapter will reduce weight capacity and is against the manufacturer's recommendations.
