Is Furrion Vision S Backup and Observation Camera System Worth the Money

Question:
Whats with the super high price backup cameras? On other websites they are less than $50. Maybe that would not be the best system, but $100 system looks good. Can I plug into the pre- installed for Furrion plug for a wireless camera that came with my trailer? it has just one plug, that must supply power to the camera. $500 for a backup camera seems like gouging.

Your RV is pre-wired for a Furrion camera, a Vision S observation camera system to be specific, like the 4.3" Screen # FOS43TASF or 5" Screen # FOS05TASF, which use a 2.5 x 5.5 mm barrel DC power plug. There's a variety of different power plugs used on backup cameras, but it's safe to say that the 2.5 x 5.5 mm barrel plug isn't typically what you find. This means that you'll likely need to either fabricate a power connector of your own, or hard wire any aftermarket camera that isn't Furrion. Because a Furrion camera bracket is also pre-installed on your trailer, it too will need to be modified or replaced with one that fits a different camera.
I agree with you that Furrion cameras aren't cheap and can certainly understand being tempted by the plethora of lower cost options roaming the internet, but here are a few things you may want to consider first. Furrion Vision S systems can either be wired as a traditional backup camera, or as an observation camera if wired to the running light circuit. Additional cameras, like # FCE48TASL and # FCN48TASF can be added with the 5 inch monitor option. While you can wire a regular backup camera that way too, it may not work well at high speeds when used for observation. Without getting into too many technical specifications, lower end wireless cameras typically have image quality and connectivity issues. Or, they may work pretty well, until they don't and depending on the seller, after-sales support may be limited as well.
