How to Correct 5th Wheel Trailer That is Nose-High When Used with Gooseneck Hitch and Adapter

Updated 07/15/2015 | Published 07/14/2015

Question:

I have a 2010 3500 Chevy long bed and a 2015 Jayco HT 29.5 ft fifth wheel adapted to a gooseneck hitch. Trailer is 7 plus inches nose high with less than 6 inches of rail clearance. No adjustments left in the hitch. What can I do to get a level trailer with more rail clearance?

Thank you for your photo. I recommend using an over-under axle kit to move your trailer's leaf springs to the top of the axle for increased ride height. We offer two such kits, # K71-384-00 for 2-3/8-inch axles and # K71-385-00 for 3-inch axles. These give a height increase of close to the axle diameter but also tend to degrade handling since the trailer's center of gravity is now higher up. Since you do not have a lot of clearance as it is now, the over-under kit is the best option.

If your truck is lifted this too can cause the same problem. Lifted trucks are not ideal for towing 5th wheels due to the height issues.
