I reached out to my contact at Lippert regarding the Bolt-On Shock Kit # LC281281 that you referenced. He said that the top bracket could be trimmed just a bit if needed to ensure a 45 degree angle on the shock, but it really depends on how much you are needing to cut. He said if you just need to file down a corner or something minimal like that it's not an issue.

However, if you are needing to cut off a more substantial section of the bracket or actually take off a piece that would eliminate one of its bolt holes, then it wouldn't be recommended. Doing this may affect the bracket's integrity and lead to failure down the line.

If you can tell me a bit more about what kind of cutting needs to be done I will be happy to help further. In the meantime I have attached the full installation manual below that you can look through.
