Can You Install an Aftermarket Brake Controller On a 2019 Ranger

Question:

The dealer tells me the only brake controller that will work on my 2019 Ford Ranger with Trailer Package is the factory controller due to the Automatic Emergency Braking System. Im partial to the Prodigy P2 or P3 as Ive used them in the past. Will the Prodigy controller work on my 2019 Ford Ranger?

I've reached out to my contact at Tekonsha and found that you can in fact use the P2 or P3 for your new Ranger. It has a factory pre-wire setup under that dashboard that you can plug part # 22292 into and simply plug that into the back of your Prodigy controller.

You do need to keep in mind that when you use an aftermarket brake controller your factory anti sway control that they have built into some models of the Ranger will not be active.

If you don't already have the brake controller you want I'll include links for them # 90195 for the P3 and # 90885 for the P2 below as well as a link to the pig tail # 22292 you need to plug it in. I really like the P3 over the P2 because it gives a great deal more diagnostic functions and user controlled setting as well as a more flexible mounting requirement but both of them are very reliable and effective. This will be a very quick and easy installation and you'll be hauling in no time. Happy Towing!
