Question:
can i add a brake lockout solenoid to a cargo trailer with serge brakes if it did not come that way from the manufacturer

Expert Reply:
Yes, you can add a solenoid valve to your brake actuator on your trailer to prevent the brakes from locking up when in reverse as long as you have the standard 3/16 inch brake lines on your trailer.
This valve will attach between the master cylinder and your brake line and it will wire into the reverse light circuit on your trailer. Once your vehicle is put in reverse the solenoid valve closes and prevents pressure from reaching the brakes.
Make sure that when you are backing up that you do not try to force the trailer over a curb or a large rock because the added pressure could damage the master cylinder.
You will also want to add a solenoid shield like part # T4835800183 to protect the solenoid valve.
