So the companion wont fit just sliding into the ball insert like it does now

For the 2020 models of the GMC and Chevy factory rail kits GM made a few changes to the OEM rail kit dimension so the hitch fits had to change. But the good news is that you don't have to buy an all new hitch. You can reuse the head of your current hitch and just get a new base to fit the truck with part # BWRVB3715.

You might consider selling your current hitch complete as that might be easier to sell than just the base and then go with the new hitch # BWRVK3715 and you'd be ready to tow.

I think I misunderstood your initial question and for that I apologize. So while the answer is basically still the same the explanation or the "why" is different. The Companion hitch you have now that is designed to fit a Turnoverball Gooseneck hitch will not fit the same gooseneck ball slot of your GM rail kit as it's a totally different design. So you'll still need to either replace the entire hitch with the # BWRVK3715 or just swap the base to the # BWRVB3715.
