Great question Tara. The EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 306-X7391 is a concealed cross tube hitch for the 2020 Subaru Forester that does require fascia trimming. It requires a 2-1/4" X 5-1/2" X rectangle cut out. I have attached a photo for your reference. Since the hitch reciever does not stick out of the fascia you are just trimming a little off the bottom of the bumper fascia to make room for the hitch. I have also attached an installation video for your reference.
For the wiring, I recommend Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector part # 118467 which is a plug and play option. It plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located in your rear cargo area, either behind the driver's-side trim panel or in the spare tire compartment. The paneling inside your rear cargo area needs to be temporarily removed to access the plug in for the harness but besides that it is a simple install.
