Question:
Hello, It appears my question is similar to others concerning fitment for the Outback with 225-65/R18 tires however, I just want to make sure I get it right. The Outback manual states that the Outback model is not compatible with chains but does not give details as to which tolerances create the condition of concern. As other responses to questions have stated, law trumps manufacturer manuals and frankly it is possible to get into a situation where chains could be needed so I need to find a solution. Please help me with the following questions as best as possible: - what tolerances inside wheel well?, wheel well directly above tread?, different? are of concern relative to use of chains with the Outback? It isn’t obvious just looking at the vehicles tires since it appears there is room for chains? - what types of chains can best address Subaru’s tolerances concerns? - will the K66 be a best fit for the model Outback I have? - are there better options? Thank you in advance for your help and time.

The K-Summit Chains K66 part # TH02230K66 that you referenced is the best option for the standard two 2020 Subaru Outback Wagon tire sizes of 225/60-18 and 225/65-17 but you mentioned having 225/65-18 which means you'd need the K67 size part # TH2004565767 instead. The K-Summit chains are by far the best solution for vehicles with very limited clearances as they are only option that does not drape of inside of tire sidewall which is where basically all of the clearance issues arise.
So for a vehicle like yours where it seems there is clearance for chains but the manufacturer says "no" the K-Summits are the best solution. They also install easily and provide excellent traction too!
I attached an install/review video for these chains for you to check out too.
