Question:

Hi... I have two separate issues. 1. I have a 2012 Toyota Highlander. I want to be able to tow my enclosed motorcycle trailer Ill be towing 2 large motorcycles and other misc stuff in the trailer. I am looking at the Tekonsha P3, a Curt Trailer Hitch, and the Pro Series Weight Distribution System. What wiring do I need for the e-brake and trailer I have no connections at this time. 2. Also, I have my old Tekonsha P2 that I want to install on a 2000 Toyota Tundra. It currently has a class III hitch and 7 pole connector. I do not see any fuses like in your videos. What else would I need to install the P2? Thank so much for your assistance and your product ion.... and the videos!

First, for a brake controller, in addition to the P3, # 90195, you will also need to install a 4-Way wiring harness on the Highlander, # 118449. I have included links to the installation instructions for the wiring for you. After you have the 4-Way installed, you will need to install a 4 and 7 way installation kit, # ETBC7. This kit provides the wiring for a 7-Way and to install the brake controller. I have included some links that explain this installation as well.

The Curt trailer hitch for the 2012 Toyota Highlander does not allow the use of weight distribution. I recommend the Draw-Tite trailer hitch, # 75586. It can be used with weight distribution. I have included a link to the installation instructions for you.

I also recommend the etrailer ball mount kit, # 989900 which comes with 2 ball mounts, 2 balls, a hitch pin with clip, and a carrying bag.

When choosing a weight distribution system, you want one that has a tongue weight capacity range that encompasses your trailer tongue weight when loaded and ready to tow plus the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I have included a link to our weight distribution FAQ and a link to the Pro Series systems.

On the 2000 Toyota Tundra, you will need to hardwire in the brake controller using an installation kit # 5506. you will follow the ETBC7 instructions for wiring in the brake controller with one exception. When it comes time to connect the blue wire, you will need to run a wire from the controller blue wire, under the vehicle, and back to the 7-Way avoiding areas that may pinch or burn the wire.

At the 7-Way, remove the wire attached to the back of the connector that is in the 7 oclock position and replace it with the wire you ran.
