Question:
We are looking for a bolt on 2 square receiver hitch for a 2006 Ford E-150 van. I dont know the differences between the different hitch classes. What would you recommend? The maximum trailer weight well pull is about 3500lbs but we do travel fairly long distances. Would a step bumper work as well? Thanks.

For a 2 inch trailer hitch receiver, you will want a Class III or higher. I have incldued a link to an FAQ article that explains the differences amongst the various hitch classes.
For your 2006 Ford E-150 Van, I recommend the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch, # 75703. This is the most popular 2 inch hitch for your vehicle. I have included a link to the installation instructions and a link to a video showing a typical installation for you to view.
The hitch can be installed if the van has a step bumper, but a longer ball mount will be needed, like # D-26, than the one we normally would recommend for this hitch and vehicle. For a hitch pin and clip use # PC3. For a ball you can use # 19260 (1-7/8 inch diameter), # 19247 (2 inch diameter), or # 63853 (2-5/16 inch diameter). For trailer wiring, use # C56020. I have included a link to the installation details for the wiring.
