Using Quick Splice Connectors for Water Proof Connection

Question:

I noticed another one of your connecters is water proof and was wondering if there was any way to make this one waterproof as well. I will be using 12ga wire on my boat trailer and will need to splice into the 12ga to smaller wiring for the lights.

If you're looking for a waterproof connection, I couldn't recommend quick splice connectors like the # SWC501925-1. The best solution to make the connection waterproof is to solder the connection then use a heat shrink tube like # DW05449 for 10-14 gauge wires or # DW05451 for 14-18 gauge wire. The second best option would be to use a heat shrink butt connector like # DW05745-5 for 10-12 gauge or # DW05744-10 for 14-16 gauge. Wrapping the connections securely in electrical tape would also be a good bit of added protection. I suppose a dab of grease could help keep water out of the connection, but I'd recommend doing it right the first time so you don't have to keep going back and fixing it.

The quick splice connectors are extremely easy to use, but I wouldn't ever use them anywhere that would be exposed to the elements. Soldering is definitely your best bet. It's an easy skill to acquire, and we even sell a soldering gun that includes the solder and the flux as part # PTW2012.
