Can I Use an Anti-Rattle Clamp When Towing a Trailer?
Updated 08/21/2019 | Published 08/20/2019 >
Question:
All the anti-rattle clamps seem to be for non-towing applications. I am assuming that if a clamp was installed, then the towing would put too much force on it and break it, wallow it out, etc. Is it better to just let it rattle during towing, and remove the hitch when not towing? Or will the clamp be fine if I tow with it on? Honda Passport, very shallow OEM hitch. 850lb trailer, probably 1200lb or more total gross weight.

This can be frustrating, but I have a solution for you. If your hitch has a lip or collar around the opening, the Roadmaster Quiet Hitch # RM-061 is going to be perfect for you. You can use this clamp when towing a load, carrying a bike rack and also when you don't have anything attached to your ball mount.
If your hitch doesn't have a lip or collar around the opening, I recommend going with the Pro Series Anti-Rattle Device for 2" Hitches # PS63091 . This will slip on to your ball mount and then butt up against the receiver, so the installation will be extremely easy and will eliminate the rattling that you're hearing.
